Originally part of Kanga Corp season '20, We are excited to bring you the Deluxe edition of close but no cigar both digitally & Physically!

Inspired by [adult swim] bumps, Nujabes, beloved anime, and J Dilla’s blissful grin upon the iconic cover of Donuts, “close but no cigar” is P-Body’s boldest and most idiosyncratic beat tape yet. Each of its 15 tracks (the last 5 serving as bonus cuts concocted specifically for this Kanga Corp release) are inspired by the atmosphere and the characters specific to the anime they respectively feature. Eclectic sampling across it’s 19 minute runtime comprises of a sonic smorgasbord: quirky and lively French samba turned boom bap sits squarely next to spacey prog-rock guitar leads that soar above trap drums. Vapor-hop crossover jam “フリーキー·フライデー” seamlessly melds crispy classic hip-hop drum rhythms with a murky and forlorn pitched down 70s soul sample, not to mention washed out, synthetic saxophone melodies. There’s something here for everyone, especially fans of jinsang, Madlib, tomppabeats, knxwledge, and other instrumental hip-hop beatsmiths. “I wanted every beat on here to make you smile like Dilla on that infamous Donuts album cover,” says the 25 year old producer. It’s time to press play, and feel that grin for yourself.
